Jaya Sri Maha Bhodi in Anuradhapura is the sacred Bo tree of the buddhists in the world. It was grown from cutting of the southern branch of Sri Maha Bodhi at Buddha Gaya, India, under which Lord Buddha attained enlightment. The tree was planted in Anuradhapura Mahameuna gardens during the reign of Sinhalese King Devanampiya Thissa.
