Mirisawetiya

The Mirisawetiya sthupa was constructed by King Dutugamunu(167BC-137BC). There is a st ory about building this Stupa. One day king had gone to Tissa Wewa for a bath keeping his scepter, which contained Lord Buddha’s relics on the bank of the wewa. But after finishing the bath he couldn’t pull the scepter. it is in that place, where he kept the scepter, he constructed Mirisawetiya sthupa. These sthupas has to be restored time to time. First restoration of Mirisawetiya sthupa was done by King Gajabahu(114-136AD).
