One of the famous botanical garden in sri lanka is Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens
This gardens are located at about 5.4 kilometers from Kandy, the capital of Central Province, near Mahaweli river.Adjecent to the garden is the National Herbarium of Sri Lanka. The land used by the garden is more than 145 acres, containing more than 4000 species of plants. Number of variety of orchids, plants of spices, palm trees and medicinal plants are grown in this garden. During the period when ancient sinhales kings like King Wickramabahu ruled the country, he had kept his court in this site. The garden was gradually expanded after 1843.
